Heimiller Greenhouses was established in 1981 by Ronald John Heimiller.Utilizing the knowledge he learned during his classes at B.O.C.E.S. and farming with his father, Ron started his business out of 6 hoop houses he built in his parents’ backyard on Tonawanda Creek Rd. in Amherst, NY. In 1991, realizing that the business was outgrowing the space in Amherst, Ron moved the operation to a 69 acre farm in Newfane. The business has since expanded to 1 acre of greenhouse production space and 5 acres of outdoor production. The operation, which had previously been strictly wholesale, moved into the retail sector in 2008 with the opening of a garden shop dedicated to servicing the public.
Heimiller Greenhouses is definitely a family business.Ronald Heimiller as President and Head Grower oversees daily operations. He is assisted by his son, Ron Jr. and daughter, Jennifer who have stepped up into Assistant Grower roles from their previous roles as farm hands.Daughter, Chelsea and son, Nick also help out in the greenhouse and garden shop when their busy school schedules allow.Ron’s wife Lisa maintains bookkeeping and more recently has taken management of the retail side of the business.Heimiller Greenhouses also employs a wonderful crew of seasonal help who enjoy getting their hands dirty.
Ron, Lisa and family are happy to have made their home and grown their business in Newfane. They are active in the community, and volunteer time and talents to many different organizations. Some of these include Scouting, Planting Programs at Elementary Schools, Church, and the Master Gardening program of Niagara County. They maintain membership in the Newfane Business Association, Niagara USA Chamber, New York State Flower Industries, Pride of NY, Cornell Cooperative Extension, Perennial Plant Association, and the local PTSA.Heimiller Greenhouses are proud to be celebrating their 30th Anniversary this year and look forward to spending another 30 plus years loving what they do.
